Marketing & PR Workstream

The Pro Carton & ECMA marketing and PR workstream meets every two months to drive the planning and execution of key marketing and PR activities. We count full participation from nine member organisations.

Our most recent focus has been on participation in trade fairs and events. The workstream confirmed the relevance of participating in Fachpack in Nuremberg in September 2024 and the idea was expressed to include 4evergreen as a partner for a joint appearance with FFI, 4evergreen and Pro Carton. Preparations are in full swing.

After the first successful round of presenting interesting Industry Talent Spotlights on professions and job profiles within our industry, we have confirmed the next series of Industry Talent Spotlights that we shall launch in May. You will find 4 more job profiles on social media showcasing exciting career opportunities in our industry. We will again have a mix of colleagues from cartonboard mills and carton converters.

2023 Industry Talent Spotlights:

We have also put on the agenda the further enhancement of the PCYDA award to maximise the value for Pro Carton and ECMA member organisations. We will increase the visibility of PCYDA projects for Pro Carton and ECMA members.

We will see a further alignment of key messages within the working group work. We are making very good progress in this direction.  I would like to say thank you for the active participation of all team members.

Public Affairs Workstream

The Pro Carton & ECMA Public Affairs Workstream continues to meet every 2 months to discuss key policy areas affecting the fibre packaging value chain. Our core focus has been to brief members on the Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), as it moves to full adoption with just 2 votes in the European Parliament and Council of Ministers remaining.  Our attention has increasingly been drawn to the European Union Deforestation regulation (EUDR) which is replacing the Timber Regulations and is scheduled to come into force at the end of 2024.  At this late stage, many areas of the Regulation are not clear and if the Commission does not delay the implementation date, many stakeholders are warning of serious disruptions in commodity supply chains.

In addition, the Workstream maintains a ‘watching brief’ over other policy area including the Waste Framework Directive,  Substantiating Green Claims, Ecodesign rules for Sustainable Products and the Late Payments Directive.

The attendance and engagement in the Workstream meetings from a mix of cartonboard mills and converters continues to be encouraging.
