This time, the winners and finalists of the PROPAK Austria Pro Carton Young Designers Award 2024 were guests at the “Smart Packaging” awards ceremony at the Austrian Packaging Day at FH Campus Vienna. The winners were Izabella Elek with “Choco Wave”, Timon Ibounigg with “Drill Packaging” and Inti-Filippa Crespín with “Dashamp – The dry Shampoo”.
The winners and finalists had beaming faces, and not just because of their success: the award marked the beginning of many a career in design, as experience has shown that the industry is very interested in new, promising ideas and their designers. All designs were on display throughout the day and were examined in detail by numerous experts.
Horst Bittermann, Director General Pro Carton, and Paul Leitner, MM Premium Vienna and Chairman PROPAK Austria Folding Box Industry, presented the certificates and trophies on behalf of PROPAK Austria and Pro Carton. The teachers were on stage with the students and then celebrated the success together.
One submission, two awards: Anyone who wants to take part should submit their entry to the international Pro Carton Young Designers Award by May 2025. The exact date is yet to be announced, and all details will be available here soon . It’s best to start working right away!

This small, sustainable packaging for drills is made from environmentally friendly cardboard. Its compact design reduces waste and shipping costs while underlining the brand’s commitment to environmental protection.
“My packaging is over 50% smaller in volume than the original packaging, and it is made of cardboard rather than plastic. The most difficult thing was to arrange the drills in such a way that they take up as little space as possible and to dimension the tabs in which the drills are held so that the drills cannot fall out, but are still easy to remove.”
Winner: Sustainability
“Dashamp – The dry shampoo”
Horst Bittermann (Pro Carton), Inti-Filippa Crespín, Bernhard Sassmann, Paul Leitner (MM Packaging, Chairman PROPAK Austria Folding Carton Industry)
Designer | Inti-Filippa Crespín, winner of the Sustainability Award at the International Pro Carton Young Designers Award
Institute | The Graphic
Artists Teachers | Bernhard Sassmann, Mike Scherr
Dry shampoo for fresh hair in an instant is usually packaged in aluminum aerosol bottles and thus pollutes the environment. The cardboard packaging of “Dash” in the shape of a modern shower head solves this problem. Because dry shampoo in powder form can also be perfectly packaged in cardboard.
“Sustainability is important to me and for this reason I have invested a lot of time and passion in my Dashamp project. To receive recognition for this work means a lot to me.”
Finalists:
“BIITS – DIY Headphones Stand” Designer | Jacqueline Höger Institute | Higher Graphical Federal Education and Research Institute Teacher | Gerlinde Gruber-Avramidis
Headphones are often moved back and forth on the desk. BIITS Professional Headphones therefore comes with its own headphone stand made of F-wave micro-corrugated cardboard. All the parts can be put together without glue and are transformed into a stable and visually appealing stand that even accommodates a jack adapter.
“Sewing Disc – Spinning Needle Solution” Designer | Malina Kremser Institute | Höhere Graphische Bundes- Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt Teacher | Mike Scherr
This disc, made with high precision from cardboard, safely stores 14 high-quality sewing needles and offers a unique rotating mechanism for easy removal. It also contains a threading tool for a hassle-free sewing experience. The stable and lightweight cardboard Sewing Disc protects the needles.
“Bow Buddy” Designer | Pia Barbarino Institute | Die Graphische Lehrerinnen | Gudi Schwienbacher, Judith Kroisleitner
Bow Buddy is a stylish and practical solution for storing ribbons. The ribbon can be easily unwound and wound back into the box using its spool. There it waits for its next use. A window allows you to see which color ribbon is inside before you open it.
