Elegance and joie de vivre with cardboard characterized the entries for the Carton Austria Award 2024, which entered its 7th year this year. This time everyone agreed, the CASH jury as well as the audience: “Art of Ice” won the Carton Austria Award for the best cardboard packaging from Austria. The award ceremony took place on October 8, 2024 as part of the Packaging Dialog 2024.

The Austrian award for sustainable creativity from PROPAK Austria , Pro Carton and the CASH trade magazine presents current creations made of cardboard. As always, two juries decide on the winners: an expert jury from CASH and a public vote. “The CASH trade magazine is a proud media partner of the Carton Austria Award and of course also takes part in the Packaging Dialogue,” said editor-in-chief Margaretha Jurik.

In recent years, the decision has often been difficult. Last year, for example, two concepts were tied for first place in the audience vote, so two audience awards were given. This time it was different: for the first time in the history of the award, the jury and audience unanimously chose “Art of Ice”.

The exclusive ice cream creations are designed by artists and packaged in limited editions – as a tribute to creativity and craftsmanship. They do not require plastic film. Art of Ice aims to overcome the boundaries between culinary enjoyment and artistic expression, enriched by the exclusivity of personalized luxury products and the shine of 24-carat gold. The one-piece folding boxes with hinged lids are easy to handle for the manual packaging process.

The jury justified its decision as follows: “It is the right mix of striking design and smart practicality that characterizes this packaging innovation. The object, which is perceived as a small work of art, makes a clear invitation to reuse, in whatever form. As a result, the packaging generates enormous attention in the category, because deep-freezing is a tough competition of colors, shapes and packaging. Nevertheless, product protection is a top priority – an all-round successful project.”

The awards were presented by Margaretha Jurik, Editor-in-Chief of CASH Handelsmagazin, as well as by Paul Leitner, MM Premium Vienna, Chairman PROPAK Austria Folding Box Industry, and Horst Bittermann, Director General Pro Carton.

The award ceremony took place in the festive setting of the Packaging Dialogue 2024, which this time was dedicated to the application of artificial intelligence in everyday life. Gerhard Kürner provided innovative impulses with his keynote speech “Beyond Limits – Artificial Intelligence in Business and Society”, which were then expanded upon in a high-profile panel discussion.
One submission, two awards: Anyone who wants to take part should submit their entry to the European Carton Excellence Award by May 2025. The exact date will be announced soon, and all details will be available here soon .

“Please submit for next year. The advertising value of your submissions for the Pro Carton Austrian Award is very high and you can all benefit from it,” emphasised Horst Bittermann.
