This year, above all, the huge range of ideas was fascinating, and the two top winning films were absolute highlights: The carton family: a recycle story by Marco Scirè, Shailu Flammini, Stefania Squitieri and Aurora Italiano, and Cartonovella, by Moritz Hilker, Lærke Blix Hagemann, Kenneth Dumevi and Benedek Tikk. In this third year of the award, there was also a first-ever public vote.

Over 800 entries this year from more than 100 universities: participation was absolutely overwhelming! What’s more, under the umbrella of the Pro Carton award, eight countries are also awarding national prizes, highlighting the wide appeal of the competition.
European Carton Excellence Award 2022: the Winner is …

In a glamorous event at our Award Ceremony in Krakow on 15 September 2022, the winners were awarded the most prestigious packaging design award: the best cartons on the market. Carton of the Year went to General/Snack Tomatoes, by Rutgers Printing & Packaging Solutions made out of cardboard from Stora Enso. This Award is not only about aesthetics – functionality also needs to persuade the jury. And there was a clear winner right from the start: the circular economy.
