European Carton Excellence Anniversary Awards

A number of surprises are planned to mark the 25th anniversary of the European Carton Excellence Award, highlighting the successful journey from its inception in 1997 as the Pro Carton ECMA Award to becoming Europe's most prestigious award for cartonboard packaging. They’ll be some special awards to recognise achievements over the past 25 years as well, of course, as the trophies and certificates for the 2021 winners.  But you’ll have to wait to see exactly what these commemorative awards will be and who will win them.  One thing we guarantee is that there will be some surprises.  All will be revealed at the 2021 E-vent and Awards ceremony planned for September. Although there were only 68 entries to the competition in its second year in 1998, the winning pack was indeed very special with the jury saying that it “defied the classical form of the folding carton as it’s a trapezium that mimics the shape of the confection”.  The winners were CP Schmidt Verpackungs-Werk and Stora Paperboard for their Merci Pur “Megabond” pack which recreated a giant sweet wrapper out of cartonboard.  You can see the pack and the jury report in the Pro Carton Awards archive.

There’s lots to win in 2021, so join in!

In addition to the Carton of the Year, there will be four Category Awards - recognising the best packs produced on both recycled and virgin fibre board, two Special Awards, the Platinum and Gold Awards, as well as the Public Award.
