“KASAD – Pro Carton Young Designers Award 21”: Recipients duly found

KASAD has awarded the Young Designers

The second annual “KASAD – Pro Carton Young Designers Award ’21” ceremony was held in the Fuji Ballroom of Swissotel The Bosphorus, with 178 in attendance. During the ceremony, winners were each awarded TL 8,500, with finalists each receiving TL 1,250.

KASAD is a member of ECMA European Carton Makers Association, which is based in the Netherlands. ECMA represents over 70% of the European carton market. Every year, ECMA’s partner association, Pro Carton, holds the “Pro Carton Young Designers Award” competition for university students of Industrial Design. It is one of the most prestigious contests in the world, and the awards find their owners at the ECMA Congress, which is held in a different country every year. Pro Carton also supports countries that want to hold these awards at a national level. Projects which are applicable for the Pro Carton contest are scored by the Pro Carton jury, and the nation’s winners are announced seperately.

National awards are held in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Romania, Spain, Turkey and the UK.

KASAD President Alican Duran, who spoke about the contest and the ceremony;

“143 students from 17 universities entered the Pro Carton contest. With the assesment of the jury, 3 students have earned equal awards in 3 different categories. So, in a way, our contest had 3 winners. In addition to that, 5 projects have earned honorable mentions. We congratulate the students who have earned prizes with their outstanding projects. Also, we want to thank all the students and their teachers, who have been coaching them through the contest, for their hard work in these hard times due to the pandemic. Also, we want to thank ETMK Industrial Designers’ Society of Turkey Board Member Aydın Öztoprak and Director of Orhan Irmak Design Dr. Orhan Irmak for their valuable presentations, and we thank Kartonsan and everybody who has supported our contest.”  “Pro Carton – KASAD Young Designers Award ’21” ceremony is a very important event for us. Without design, it is impossible for any sector to sustain and improve, and this applies to the folding carton sector as well. Because of this, it is very important for us that future designers are showing interest in our sector. With this contest, it has been possible for our young designers to show their activity and their hard and high-quality work to an international platform, which is of great value to our country’s future.”

Alican Duran, who is also the Vice President of ECMA, has provided this information about Pro Carton Young Designers Award ’21. “643 attendees from 109 universities in 25 countries entered to the Pro Carton contest. 143 attendees from 17 universities that attended are from Turkey. In the jury’s assesment in 5 different categories, Top 100 projects were chosen, of which 19 were from Turkey. In a second assessment with the physical models of the designs, 23 projects were chosen for the Public Voting, of which 3 were from Turkey. In the online award ceremony held on September 6th, 2021, winners in these 6 categories and 6 finalists were announced. Although 3 Turkish finalists, who demonstrated great success by making it through to 23 shortlisted finalists, were not able to win an award for this year, Fazıla Müberra Kaya from Gazi Üniversitesi was chosen as one of the 6 finalists with her “Holdie” project. We  want to congratulate Fazıla Müberra Kaya and our 19 attendees, who were able to come through with spots in the Top 100 out of 643 attendees.”

KASAD Cartonboard Packaging Manufacturers Association

KASAD Cartonboard Packaging Manufacturers Association was established in 1991 and currently represents over 70% of the folding carton sector with 76 members from 53 folding carton producers and 58 members from 38 of their most important suppliers, adding up to 132 members from 91 different companies. Although a majority of the members are from İstanbul, KASAD members span through 12 different cities, namely; İstanbul, Ankara, İzmir, Tekirdağ, Bursa, Kocaeli, Sakarya, Manisa, Adana, Gaziantep, Konya and Karaman. KASAD has also 1 member from Austria.

The Association’s main objectives are; to create cooperation and unity within their members, to hold activities that aim to aid with their members’ knowledge in the sector, and that aim to improve the folding carton sector. These activities include but are not limited to; symposiums, seminars, conferences, etc. Also, the Association aims to promote and inform the public of the folding carton, which is a modern, sustainable and non-polluting packaging material, and to work on increasing its usage.
