Winners of the “KASAD – Pro Carton Young Designers Award’22” have been announced

The second annual “KASAD – Pro Carton Young Designers Award” ceremony was held on 21st September, 2022 in the Asuka room of The Bosphorus, Swissotel in Instanbul, Turkey. The award cerenomy was attended by 178 young designers. During the ceremony, winners were each awarded TL 12.000, and finalists were each awarded TL 2.000.

AWARDED PROJECTS

Winners and finalists are listed in alphabetical order. 

KASAD is a member of ECMA European Carton Makers Association, which is based in The Netherlands. ECMA represents over 80% of the European carton market. ECMA’s associaton partner, Pro Carton, annually holds the “Pro Carton Young Designers Award” competition for creative design students from universities across Europe. It is one of the most prestigious contests around the world in its field. The winners are invited to the ECMA Congress, which is held in a different country every year. Pro Carton also supports countries if they want to hold these awards at a national level. The entries to Pro Carton’s awards are scored by a professional jury, and the nation’s winners are announced seperately. 

National awards are given in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Romania, Spain, Turkey and the UK. 

KASAD President Alican Duran, who spoke about the contest and the ceremony:

“212 students from 12 universities have entered to the Pro Carton contest. After assessment from the jury, four students earned awards across three different categories. Additionally, six projects have earned honorable mentions. We would like to congratulate the students who have earned prizes for their great projects. We also want to thank all the students and their teachers, who have been coaching them for their hard work in challenging times during the pandemic. We want to thank the Head of Industrial Design Department at Istanbul Medipol University, Dr. Ersin Alaca for his valuable presentations, and we thank Kartonsan and everybody that has supported our contest.”  

“Pro Carton – KASAD Young Designers Award 2022” ceremony is a very important event for us. Without design, it is impossible for any sector to improve, and the folding carton sector is no exception. Therefore, it is very important that future designers are showing interest in our sector. With this contest, it has been possible for our young designers to show to an international platform their activity and their hard high-quality work, which is of great value to our country’s future.”

Alican Duran, who is also the Vice President of ECMA, has also given information about Pro Carton Young Designers Award 2022: “830 attendees from 103 universities in 24 countries entered to the Pro Carton competition. 212 attendees from 12 universities that attended are from Turkey. From the jury’s assessment across 5 different categories, the top 100 projects were chosen, of which 36 were from Turkey. With a second assessment of the physical models of the designs, 25 projects were chosen for the public voting round, of which 10 were from Turkey. Before the ceremony, the list was shortened to 11 finalists, of which 4 were Turkish. In the award ceremony held on 15th September, 2022, Burak Ayataç, one of the Turkish finalists, was crowned winner in both Creative Cartonboard Packaging – Food&Drink and Public Voting categories with his design, “Popcorn Bags”. 

KASAD Cartonboard Packaging Manufacturers Association

KASAD Cartonboard Packaging Manufacturers Association was established in 1991. KASAD represents over 80% of the folding carton sector with 87 members from 61 folding carton producers and 64 members from 40 of their most important suppliers. In total, the association has 151 members from 101 different companies. Although the majority of the members are from İstanbul, KASAD members span 12 different cities:; İstanbul, Ankara, İzmir, Tekirdağ, Bursa, Kocaeli, Sakarya, Manisa, Adana, Gaziantep, Konya and Karaman. It also has one member from Austria. 

The Association’s main objectives are: to create cooperation and unity within their members; to hold activities that aims to aid with their members’ knowledge in the sector; and to improve the folding carton sector. These activities include, but are not limited to, symposiums, seminars, conferences, etc. Also, the Association aims to promote and inform the public of the folding carton, which is a modern, sustainable and non-polluting packaging material, and to work on increasing its usage.
