AWARDED PROJECTS
KASAD is a member of the ECMA European Carton Makers Association, which is based in the Netherlands. ECMA represents over 70% of the European carton market. ECMA’s partner association Pro Carton holds a contest every year called the “Pro Carton Young Designers Award” for industrial design students from universities. It is one of the most prestigious competitions in the world, and the awards are presented at the ECMA Congress, which is held in a different country every year. Pro Carton supports countries if they wish to hold these awards at a national level. The projects relating to the Pro Carton competition are judged by the Pro Carton jury, and the national winners are announced separately.
Prior to 2020, Italy, France, Spain, the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Romania have held national Young Designers Awards. With the addition of Turkey this year, the number of countries with their own national awards has risen to 9.
KASAD President Alican Duran, about the contest and the award ceremony
“74 students from 10 universities entered the Pro Carton competition. According to the results of the jury, 3 students won equal awards in 3 different categories. So, if you like, our competition had 3 winners. Other than that, 6 projects received distinctions. We congratulate the students who won prizes with their great projects. Also, we wish to thank all the students and their teachers, who have been coaching them through the competition for their hard work in these hard times due to the pandemic. Also, we wish to thank the ETMK Industrial Designers’ Society of Turkey’s President Sertaç Ersayın and the Director of Orhan Irmak Design, Dr. Orhan Irmak for their valuable presentations, and we thank Kartonsan and everybody who supported our competition.” The “Pro Carton – KASAD Young Designers Award’20” ceremony is a very important event for us. Without design, it is impossible for any sector to sustain and improve, and this applies to the folding carton sector as well. Because of this, it is very important for us that the future designers show interest in our sector. With this contest, it has been possible for our young designers to demonstrate their activities and their hard and high-quality work on an international platform, which is of great value to our country’s future.”
Alican Duran, who is also the Vice President of ECMA, provided the following information about the Pro Carton Young Designers Award’20. “556 participants from 86 universities in 25 countries entered the Pro Carton competition. 74 participants from 10 universities were from Turkey. In the jury’s results in 5 different categories, 27 finalists were chosen, of which 5 were from Turkey. Public voting for these 27 finalists was completed on September 30th, in which a 6th winner was selected. In the online award ceremony held on October 7th, 2020, the winners for these 6 categories were announced. The 5 Turkish finalists who were very successful by being among the 27 finalists unfortunately did not receive an European award this year. Regardless of the result, we wish to congratulate our 5 finalists, who scored well in the final among the 556 participants.”
