Reno de Medici has confirmed that the closure of its Villa Santa Lucia cartonboard mill has been cancelled.
In January, RDM said it was considering closing the site and initiated the formal procedures to cease production of cartonboard at the Italy-based mill. It had been reported that local trade unions and local government pushed back, so as to try and avert the closure and save jobs. RDM said that the procedure for the closure and the dismissal of the 163 employees had been averted. The closure had been proposed due to issues with treatment of wastewater into the local sewerage system, but local authorities have now issued an integrated environmental authorisation, meaning the mill can restart.
RDM said that the mill, which has been idle since July 2023, will restart production on 4th March.
