Young Design for a Sustainable Future

For the second time now, the Pro Carton/PPV AUSTRIA Design Award of the Austrian carton industry was presented as part of the Printissimo/Emballissimo gala event. As yet non-realised ideas by promising design students from Austrian design schools were shown under the motto “Young Design Stars“. The significant increase in entries has undoubtedly confirmed that the award has established its place in the world of design. The awards in the two categories went to Christian Lang (packaging) and Flora Hauser (other applications).

New era in the consumer goods industry

The ECR Congress (Efficient Consumer Response) in early April 2011 in Brussels heralded fundamental changes in the markets: resources are becoming scarcer, consumers will be making higher demands, and communications will become more complex. Pro Carton attended for the third time as partner with their own stand and provided the over 700 attendants with the official congress case – a special design made of cartonboard, of course.

Save Food: protection wins

Estimates by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) suggest that worldwide between 20 and 75 % of foods are somehow lost. Much of this could be saved: by “Save Food”. Together with the Food and Agriculture Organisation, the Düsseldorf Fair will be holding a congress on this topic as part of the Interpack 2011 exhibition. With cartons being the most sustainable and consumer-preferred packaging, they are a major contributor to ensuring that foods reach consumers in perfect condition and can be handled with care in households, states Pro Carton’s President, Roland Rex.

Fresh Design from Europe: International Pro Carton Design Award 2012

The International Pro Carton Design Award is an award for new, as yet unrealised design ideas in the field of carton applications and is directed at students. The aim of the award is to discover as yet unrealised solutions and ideas throughout Europe relating to the use of carton, to present these to the public, and maybe even realise them. The European competition takes place for the third time in 2012. Pro Carton at Interpack

In 2011 Pro Carton will again be exhibiting at Interpack, the world’s most important trade show for the packaging industry, which this year will be held in Düsseldorf from 12 to 18 May 2011. Meeting point is Hall 7a, Stand 7aB31. Pro Carton will be exhibiting together with the Association of German Paper Factories (VDP), the trade association Paper Processing (WPV), and the trade association Paper Technology Specialists (PTS).

Forests – a basis for life

Forests are an integral part of global, sustainable development. To celebrate people’s actions to sustainably manage the world’s forests and to raise awareness of sustainable management and development in forests, the United Nations has declared an “International Year of Forests” for 2011. Only last year, a scientific study showed that the use of cartons and the manufacture of cartonboard in Europe encourages sustainable forest management and carbon sequestration in the forest, and that this can be directly related to carbon footprinting of cartons.

In Memoriam Mans Lejeune

It is with great sadness that we report the death of Mans Lejeune on February 12th at the age of 79. Mans was a titan in the carton industry in Europe and his legacy will endure through the continued development of that industry over the coming years.
